The mystic connotation that has been characterizing Monteluco ever since is testified to by the very name of the mountain, that derives from the Latin lucus, meaning “sacred wood”.
Yet the sacredness of the place has crossed the ages, as testified to by the many hermitages and churches that were built on its slopes, scattered across a thick wood of holm-oaks by the high scientific value. The mountain is also crossed by a network of footpaths, included in the Alpine Club guidebooks, that let us fully appreciate this enchanted place.
