The church of SS. Stephen and Thomas, a.k.a. Santa Maria della stella, was recently turned into auditorium and serves for important Spoletan cultural events.
Built between 1786 and 1793 on a project by Battista Dotti, it represents one of the best samples of late-18th-century, Neoclassical architecture in Spoleto.
The inside features a big, luminous hall that attracts the glance toward the presbytery and the apse, giving back a peculiar scenic effect. The valuable stucco decoration also proves refined, the only remaining element of the original church, in that the precious marble altars in the niches and some 18th-century canvases have been removed and brought elsewhere.
