The Museum of Textile and Costume has been progressively remodeling itself thanks to donations by private collectors, and it presently features handiwork dating to the 14th-20th centuries. The collection is thematically organized in five halls, starting with the Vestments section, where you can see a series of chasubles dating to various periods, and a precious velvet with pomegranate decoration dating to the 16th century.
The Costume Hall follows, with its precious male and female clothing items, including the Empire-style dress that belonged to Napoleon’s sister-in-law, Alexandrine Bonaparte.
The Accessories’ Hall features a wide range of cuffs, shoes and purses, and leads to the Opus Fabric Hall, that well shows the richness and variety of such handiwork. The visit itinerary ends by the hall dedicated to local fabric, featuring the ancient “Perugian Cloths”, reproduced on paintings by such artists as Leonardo da Vinci, Ghirlandaio, Giotto and many more.
