It is one of the most characteristic fountains in town, and is called “the big mask” by local folks, because of the imposing laurel-crowned human mask from whose mouth the water comes out.
An inscription states the 1736 restoration of the aedicule framing the 17th-century basin and mask. On the right, another smaller fountain also bears an inscription, “Bibe Viator”, an invitation to quench one’s thirst from the fountain’s very fresh waters.
