The Hemp Museum

The Hemp Museum is a meeting place for the exchange of practices and transmission of skills. Textile production is the focus of the museum experience creating opportunities for dialogue between institutions, students, museum experts, holders of the local tradition and weaving apprentices.

Through practice and creative reflection on weaving, the museum tells the history of the territory through the cultural interpretations of hemp.

The museum collects traces of material culture, multimedia testimonies, stories and interpretations of hemp in various contexts. Our installations invite our guests to discover the relationship between objects and their functions, decoding and linking patterns of action and thought.

The Hemp Museum is part of the “Sistema museale regionale – Salvaguardia e valorizzazione dei beni culturali connessi” (Regional Museum System – Safeguard and Development of related Cultural Heritage) under Law n. 24 of December 22nd, 2003, having obtained the Declaration of Interest with DGR 1374 of 27/07/2007.

The Hemp Museum is one of the “branches” of the Ecomuseum of the Umbrian Appenine Ridge, recognised by the regional system of the Ecomuseums starting from 2011.

Morgnano Mine Museum

The museum proposes visits guided by former miners, direct witnesses of the work in the mines.

Morgnano Mine Museum is housed on the ancient shaft of the extraction activities of mining in the Spoleto area. It is an emblematic site both for its centrality in the extractive system and for being a memorial place for the tragic events that occurred there in 1955, which left an indelible mark in the collective memory of the town of Spoleto. The Museum offers entrance and a visit to the SpoletoMiniere Display, showing collected materials, finds, and preserved documents and videos containing personal experiences recounted directly by the former miners.

It represent a unique and charming scenario for events.

In summertime there are events such as Mines in August, the National Day of Mines, Toasting Under The Stars, concerts, films, tasting, and so on.
